Season 2 Episode 6
I Guess That's Why They Call Them the Blues

Download Link

I knew this week would be difficult. Too much life sometimes. Anywho... glad you're still here!

This week started with a surprise win over the Kings, then a Disappointing loss to the Golden Horde... er... Knights. Only to come to settle on the last game of the week before a brutal six game road swing. They were up against the Blues and this was our featured game.

In this episode the Canucks play the blues... and also the NHL team from St. Louis. It's a game the Canucks could have won- maybe should have won. How close did they get? Did Boeser finally get put in the right spot on the power play? Who played net? Can anyone but Boeser score? Find out the answers to these questions... and so many more, on The Canucks Corner Pod, Season 2, Episode 6!

My predictions slipped again as I went 1W 2L for a total of 9W 10L. This week to come is going to be a killer. Six away games, all games we could lose. Let's see what the Canucks can do! Thanks so much for listening! And if you have any comments, or just want to say hello: email me at canuckscornerpod@gmail.com - it'd be awesome to hear from you!

Until we pod again... keep your stick on the ice!

Season 2 Episode 5
Boeser's Hat Trick and Podcon***

Download Link

We have just survived Week 5! Well, we survived it a while ago. :( It's now almost the end of week 6 - I have to apologize I had some editing issues. I attempted a time-saving process, which failed - and you can still hear part of that failure in the pregame show. It cuts me off in several places, but at least it was overall okay - the rest of the pod was unlistenable, so I had to find time to go back and fix the rest of it. So, sorry that it's late, and sorry about the quality of the pregame. Anywho...

The Canucks started the week in amazing fashion with an epic win over the Penguins, which is our featured game. Then the week basically got ugly and we finished up losing 4 of 5 and our last two games against the Sharks and the Ducks. Those SoCal teams, as usual, giving the Canucks fits. But at least the week is over with one huge bright spot.

In this episode I look at the game against the Penguins... and boy did that game go south quick for Crosby and his flightless fellows. It was Ovi last week and Crosby this week - Boeser just likes taking on the big-guns it seems. Huge night for Brock - he gets his very first NHL hattie, and the Canucks have a pretty good game all the way around. So glad this was the game I featured!

My predictions went better as I went 3W 2L for a total of 8W 8L... I'm a working coin again! lol The week to come looks difficult, but there will still be awesome stuff to talk about and Canucks minutia to pour over, so we'll see you then! Thanks so much for listening! And if you have any comments, or just want to say hello: email me at canuckscornerpod@gmail.com - it'd be awesome to hear from you!

We have just crushed Week 4! Things continue to look good for the Canucks. Even when they lose, they lose well; so well, that they've reminded me of the 1981-82 Canucks "lunch bucket" squad. A team who came to work every game, with only one plan: to make it as hard as it can be on the opposing team. Sometimes they would win, but many times they lost - BUT - they always made the opponents pay dearly for their wins. The Oilers could come in and beat us 5-1 and feel like they've just played a hellish 7-game playoff series. No one, not even The Great One himself took the Canucks for granted that season. Now I'm not saying that we're off to the Cup - but I'm saying that teams like Washington better not be coming in here expecting us to fold.

In this episode I look at the game against those same Washingtonians... and boy did the Canucks capitalize on a team not ready to fight. I won't tell you who won, but let's just say that Ovechkin and his boys might have just got stung by some Killer Bs.

Well, not so great with the predictions this time out. 1W 2L for a total of 5W 6L... I'm a broken coin, it seems. ;)  The week to come looks exciting, and I, for one can't wait for the next episode; it may be even better than this one! Thanks so much for listening! And if you have any comments, or just want to say hello: email me at canuckscornerpod@gmail.com - it'd be awesome to hear from you!

Week 3 is upon us! Well, it was a good week for the Canucks and Virtanen and Boeser and... well almost everyone. Happy Hallowe'en and All Saints Day!

In this episode I look at the game against the team from Minnesota - a WILD battle between Nilsson and Dubnyk! A game where Jake of All Goals gets it done, and Nilsson - perhaps! - gets his second shutout in three starts. Listen to find out! Also, the Canucks sign a new young prospect. It's a long one to make up for all the time it took to get to you (had some technical difficulties... thank Telus! ;) ).

I made predictions last week and got to .500! 4W 4L is my current record. I make three more predictions... one already has been decided! I hope you enjoy this episode- thanks so much for listening! And if you have any ideas or suggestions for this season email me at canuckscornerpod@gmail.com - it'd be awesome to hear from you!

Week 2 is upon us! It turns out that it was a good news/bad news week, as we started off with a huge win against the Oilers, but then proceeded to drop the next three games - including a rough one against Calgary.

In this episode I focus on the game against the Jets! I predicted a loss for the Canucks, and lo, it was the only game of the first four that I predicted correctly! Laine scores and a tight game finishes with an empty net goal 4-2 for the Jets from the 'Peg. I also look at the loss of two critical Canucks to injury, but get to revel in the fact that Boeser finally hit the ice, and boy, he's going to be the Canuck to watch this year!

I made more predictions for this week and hopefully will be able to get to .500 at least, as my current record is: 1W 3L. Regardless of my poor week one predictive effort, I hope you enjoy this episode- thanks so much for listening! And if you have any ideas or suggestions for this season email me at canuckscornerpod@gmail.com - it'd be awesome to hear from you!

Woot! Welcome back! It's our second season, but our first full season! I'm so excited for a whole season of The Canucks Corner Pod!! Hopefully we can have more interesting episodes, more special guests, and episodes that come out closer to the games they analyze. Regardless, we'll have more fun, and I'm totally looking forward to it!

In this episode I do not look at a specific game, instead I catch you up on the back half of the Canucks's off-season - especially the Free Agent signings. I also look at the preseason games, as I evaluate the beginning of the Canucks's "rebuild".

I then, as usual, look ahead at the week to come and make my predictions. This year I think I'll keep a tally of how my predictions hold up. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode- thanks so much for listening! Happy Canada Day, everyone! This podcast was, in some way, 150 years in the making. This is the double draft spectacular! We look at both the 2017 Expansion Draft and look ahead to the 2017 Entry Draft. We also take a look at some Canuck news and who won the major NHL awards.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights got their team together this week and GM George McPhee did a fantastic job, including snagging Canuck Luca Sbiza. He also has 3 First Round draft picks to look forward to.

Laine looks to beat Mathews for the Calder and McDavid shoots for all the major trophies that he can take home. So who wins what? Listen here to find out!

This is the end, beautiful friend... the end. The end of the 2016-17 NHL season. In this pod I look at the last playoff series - the Stanley Cup Finals. My prediction was either the Penguins in 4 or 5, or the Preds in 6 or 7.

Turns out I was wrong; but I don't mind. The team I had all along for the Stanley Cup - dem Pens - did in fact win (even though I doubted their moxy), so that's good. So, I talk about their win.

As usual I have a little Canucks news, including the return of Nolan Baumgartner and the signing of @Guddy44 - Erik Gudbranson! I also talk briefly about the NHL Expansion Draft, and the outlook for the NHL's newest member: the Las Vegas Knights. Additionally, I look ahead at the draft and free agency, and note that I will be doing podcasts that cover those events too.

So, stay tuned... same Canuck time, same Canuck channel.

In any case, until we pod again... keep your stick on the ice!

Stanley Cup Final Special Episode 01

Download Link

Welcome to a special edition of Canucks Corner! This is the much suggested, but never promised, Stanley Cup Finals edition!

Today I look at Game 6 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Nashville Predators. The Penguins are up 3 games to 2, and they return to Nashville to try to win their second Stanley Cup in a row, while the Preds try desperately to push the series to a Game 7 back in Pittsburgh.

I also have a special guest joining me on this special pod. My son, Aidan, joins me during the Postgame show, to talk about his favourite team and how they did.

It's a short episode, and one note that I have to correct is I mention that Matt Murray is the first player to win Cups in his first two years- that is untrue- in fact, he is the first goalie to win Cups in his first two years. Even Ken Dryden had to wait another year before he got his second. Remember kids: Knowing is half the battle!

I also look at recent Canuck news including a depth signing and how I feel about the news that Edler and Tanev will not be shopped, and Miller will probably be resigned.

We're finally here! The Cup Finals is going on as I type! In fact, it is already 4 games in - and things are going, pretty much, exactly as predicted... sort of... you're just going to have to listen- but I'm not wrong yet, I'll say that.

Welcome to the second playoff pod where I look at my second round predictions, discuss Round 2 in detail, and move on to my Round 3 predictions (which are already in a little trouble! lol).

I also look at recent Canuck news including the hiring of Travis Green, and rant about the NHL Draft Lottery. I include another soapbox moment about concussions along the way and in general have a pretty emotional time of it.

We're almost there! The Cup Finals are just around the corner, so stay tuned... things are heating up!

Welcome to the first playoff installment of the Canucks Corner Pod, where news regarding the Canucks is limited to a key young player who has said "Nyet" to playing with the Canucks next season and has flown home to play in the "K."

The rest of the pod contains my thoughts about the first round of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Including a recap of my predictions and the reasons why I was right all along- regardless of actual rightness. I, thereafter, make my predictions for Round 2, and note that I will next return when this round is over so I can once again review and then predict for Round 3.

Also, you may have noticed that I took great pains to get this out almost on time for the beginning of the second round, which I hope will be a good omen for rounds to come. :)

Welcome to the sixth installment of Canucks Corner Pod- and the last pod of the regular season! In this podcast I talk about the last few games of the regular season, how the standings finished up - including where the Canucks finished, and make some predictions about the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The special game of this pod is, once again, a game against the Arizona Coyotes. However, this is game number 80 on the schedule and most important in regard to where the Canucks finish in the overall standings- which determines which lottery odds the Canucks get for the NHL draft. At this point the Canucks only had three games remaining and were one point ahead of the Coyotes... they NEEDED a loss to catapult the Coyotes ahead and be sure that the New Jersey Devils would remain above the Canucks as well, since they had only one more point than the Canucks.

I also mention that I will be podcasting during the playoffs, so I can talk about the happenings and make some predictions for the next round. Finally, I note that I will be having an episode regarding free agency and the draft- so look forward to that! After which, I will likely take a break over the summer as there won't be much to pod about, but will then return to get ready for the 2017-2018 season.

Speaking about long breaks. Sorry about the one I just took! As I mention in the pod, I had real life get in the way, and a good dollop of good-ol' procrastination, so I apologize for that, and want you to know that I'm back on schedule, such that it is, and you can expect Canucks Corner Pod to continue as noted above. So, thanks, indeed, for listening! I appreciate you coming back to hear what I have to say.
